Jack and the Fallen Giants
A poor boy. A handful of beans. A very long climb.
Written by Jonathan Pageau. Illustrated by Éloïse Scherrer.
About the tale
A poor boy, a handful of magic beans, a beanstalk, and a castle full of giants. Every child knows the story, or thinks they do.
Jonathan Pageau tells the story the old way, keeping the shape it had long before the Brothers Grimm. Children will read it as an adventure. Older readers will start to notice why Jack gives up a meal for a handful of beans, why he has to climb, and why the beanstalk has to come down.
Éloïse Scherrer illustrated the book. She grew up on Tolkien and has spent her career illustrating European fantasy. Her pictures are full of texture and light, and they are worth reading slowly.
Jack and the Fallen Giants is the second of eight books in Tales for Once & Ever. The tales are meant to be read together, and some characters turn up in more than one book.
